Absinthe fans and featured snowboard pros come together for the premiere of Absinthe Films’ Optimistic?, the focal point of the Sphere of Influence Tour.

In the first season where Global Warming’s effects hit a majority of snowboarders worldwide, Absinthe Films somehow still manages to deliver another Full Spectrum Snowboarding experience in Optimistic?. Find out why snowboarders who’ve seen Optimistic? on the big screen can’t stop talking about it. Absinthe Films approach is to continue to take deliberate steps at a sustainable rate towards the goal: Leaving no carbon footprint and encouraging others to do the same. We’re doing more than yesterday, and less than tomorrow, says Absinthe co- conspirator Justin Hostynek.

In a theater fully submerged in the collective anticipation of those first turns, winter enthusiasts and featured pros share the energy that keeps snowboarding alive through those long summer months and the energy that keeps it progressing year after year. Shown only in art house theaters with excellent projection and sound, this ideal viewing experience is a catalyst for winter plans and that bottomless feeling of possibility that comes with each new season.

Heida Birgisdottir started up Nikita a while back so that she could have sweet clothes to wear after she got done riding at her local mountain in Iceland. With styles ranging from apre attire to hot date night dresses, Heida definitely filled our need for a unique streetwear line.

Check out the 2008 Fall/Winter line up. Keep an eye out for this season’s outerwear, coming soon!

Well last weekend held one of Portland’s newest contests to hit the scene. Salomon Snowboards and Bonfire teamed up with U.S. Outdoor store to hold the first ever Backyard Bang Railjam in Portland’s Ankeny alley.

The morning started out with crazy downpours of our sweet not so frozen moisture. All day long it pretty much dumped buckets of rain. There were a few heavies were in town for the rail jam. Well mostly Salomon and Bonfire riders and a few other pros to add to the list. A few local riders were able to join the ranks to stack up the competition. Marc Frank was spinning beats under the tent to avoid having a freak Michael Jackson accident with all the rain.

Well by the afternoon finals the sun broke out of the clouds and the rain finally let up. Krush and his crew from Snowboy Productions setup the rails and was crossing their fingers that with all the rain the snow/ice would stick around.. Luckily it did.

Jed Anderson walked away with $3000 and first place for men. Coming in a close second was the newest addition to the Salomon team, Nick Dirks, his perfect back lip on the kinked rail had spectators throwing up their Bang bandanas. Third place went to jib jam regular, Lucas Magoon.
Ryan Thompson, Colin Langlois and Will Bateman all held it down in the finals.

For the ladies, Carrie Gallaway made a name for herself by snagging first place and $3000. Second place went to Windell’s coach and Tahoe local Kirstin Seitz. Colleen Quigley scored third. Other stand-outs included Jamie Anderson, Desiree Melancon and Leanne Pelosi.

The Afterparty went down at the Someday lounge in NW Portland sponsored by Future Snowboarding Magazine. The buzz word was “Future”, thanks Kale!!! Music consisted of this sweet DJ rocking out and dancing with his computer, it sounds like it may have gotten a little better, but I’m an old man and decided to leave.

Thanks again to all the sponsors of the event: Salomon Snowboards, US Outdoor Store, Bonfire Snowboarding, Oakley, Dakine, R.E.D, Paul Mitchell, Scion, Gore-tex, Skullcandy, 101KUFO, P Water, Cobra Dogs, Mt. Hood Meadows and Future Snowboarding Magazine.
